As a music lover who knows almost every word to every oldie song in existence, I can’t help but sing when I open this beer,
Tempation eyes, looking through my my my soul….
Russian River Temptation, Batch 6, 7.5 %ABV (Aged in Chardonnay barrels): Beautifully done. Citrus tartness, delicate yeast, and oak mingle with definite Chardonnay notes of pear and apple. Perfectly balanced, a true example of an artisanal hand at work.
Timmermans Oude Gueuze, 5.5% ABV: Lemony tartness, the first sip of this beer is a mouth-puckering surprise. High carbonation with citrus, yeast, hay, dried grass, earth, and subtle funk. A drinkable and refreshing gueuze worth trying if you love the sours.
Cigar City Humidor IPA, 7.5% ABV: This might be the most interesting IPA I have ever tasted. Aged on Spanish cedar, this brew uses Jai Alai IPA as a base beer with the addition of cedar during secondary fermentation. This literally smells like the inside of a Humidor.
The grapefruit and tropical fruit from the Jai Alai is still present but is joined by notes of tobacco, leather, wood, caramel, and spice. Cigar and tobacco fans are going to love this. Could I drink a whole bottle by myself? Probably not, but it was great for sharing and beer geek musings.
